ASR (Acceleration Skid Control) employs two strategies to prevent drive wheels from spinning. Firstly, it applies controlled brake force to minimize wheel spinning. Secondly, it adjusts the engine's torque through the electronic gas pedal. This ensures that even under full throttle, the engine delivers power in accordance with the drive wheels' capacity, enhancing safety during acceleration and maneuvering.

ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) operates using sensors on all four wheels to monitor their rotational speeds, sending this data to a central control unit. If a wheel reaches a critical point where it's about to lock during braking, the system adjusts the brake pressure to keep the wheel at that threshold. This adjustment can happen multiple times within a second. As braking occurs, ABS continuously monitors the force on each wheel and its rolling characteristics. The braking force is distributed to prevent any wheel from locking up, maintaining the vehicle's maneuverability. This prevents skidding and allows the driver to maintain control during braking, improving overall safety and stability.

The Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) is an active system designed to enhance handling safety and stability. It significantly reduces the risk of skidding during turns or evasive maneuvers. In critical handling situations, ESP® intervenes by applying targeted braking to individual wheels, especially when the bus approaches its limits in a curve. Simultaneously, the engine output is decreased to ensure controlled braking interventions that prevent skidding as much as possible. ESP® monitors factors like the bus's lateral acceleration. When critical handling situations arise during extended curves, like highway exits, or sudden lane changes, the system automatically reduces the vehicle's speed to restore handling stability. ESP® is similar to the technology used in passenger cars but is adapted for buses with specific extended functionalities.

The new Citaro sets new standards in terms of roadholding. Whether carrying a full load of passengers or on varying road conditions, this comfortable public service bus maintains excellent suspension performance. The optional roll-pitch control system with electronically controlled shock absorbers plays a key role in achieving this. This system automatically enhances vehicle stability, leading to improved roadholding and passenger comfort.

Roll and pitch control is available as special equipment for the Citaro, providing enhanced vehicle stability, safety, and ride comfort. This feature operates by adapting the response of the shock absorbers based on driving conditions and load status. It effectively reduces and accelerates the mitigation of unwanted rolling, pitching, and linear movements of the bus body. During scenarios like high-speed braking or sharp cornering, the damping is firm, enhancing handling safety. Conversely, in different situations, the dampers respond more softly, contributing to the Citaro's renowned ride comfort in alignment with the specific circumstances.

We have accentuated its robust design through numerous new design elements, including the bold front panel, sculpted wheel arches, and the prominent Citaro logo at the rear. The larger side windows with a contemporary curved lower edge also add to its distinctive appearance.
